Paths of Light

Lying hurts everyone

Speaking and supporting the truth holds friends together.

Holds families together.

Holds societies together.

Think about the people who TELL a damaging lie and know what really happened.

Think about the people who HEAR a damaging lie and know what really happened.

Think about the people who HEAR a damaging lie and DON’T know what really happened.

Three people. Three people have three different perspectives as a result of what they know or don’t know. How should each behave? How do they really behave? What should those people do? Most people would say, “that is a lie, here’s what really happened” and then show proof. Lying gives the liar a moment of gain and everyone else a lifetime of pain. Every lie has its consequences.

Lying hurts everyone. Those who tell it and those who are told the lie.

Why do people lie?

1. They don’t want people to know the bad things they are doing? (Wrong-doing, poor values)

2. They don’t want to stop doing the bad things they’re doing? (Greed, wrong-doing, poor values)

3. They want other people to think of them as great people even though they know inside they are not?(Narcissistic, poor values, wrong-doing)

4. They want to win at all costs of hurting others?(Greed, cruelty, wrong-doing, poor values)

5. They don’t want people to know how little they know? (Incompetency, wrong-doing, poor values)

6. They want to keep something they do not deserve? (Unfairness, greed, wrong-doing, poor values)

7. They don’t think it is wrong to lie? (Wrong-doing, poor values)

8. They want to get attention? (Desperation, poor values, wrong-doing)

The next time you notice someone is lying, stop and observe carefully. Think about where that person is in their growth journey. What are they aware of?  What are their values? How do they see themselves as a responsible member of society. Do they see themselves as a speck of dust or a pillar of responsibility?  When a person lies they may think that a lie will not cause consequences to others. It is like a speck of dust; seemingly of little consequence.  If they do, they may be seeing themselves of little consequence  and almost invisible to others. The lie is their way to be noticed because they have not done much in this world to shine in the hearts of others.
